Live Like Frodo in Your Very Own Hobbit Hole Playhouse
Whether you’re a casual “Lord of the Rings” viewer or a dedicated superfan, you’ve probably wondered what it would be like to live in a hobbit hole. Well, wonder no longer, because now, you can buy a hobbit hole playhouse for your backyard.
Each custom-designed playhouse is more whimsical than the last. Kids can spend hours playing in their very own hobbit hole. While it’s marketed as a playhouse, teenagers and adults can definitely enjoy it, too. The floor measures 10’ x 6’ and the floor to ceiling height is 5’5” in the center, so there’s tons of room for activities. Imagine reading “The Hobbit” inside of a hobbit house.
The hobbit hole playhouses are made by Wooden Wonders, a family business located in Thorndike, Maine. Wooden Wonders builds its products with wood that’s sustainably harvested by small local woodcutting businesses and milled at a local sawmill.
Assembly is required, but the kit comes with pre-built panels, fasteners, and detailed instructions on how to put it together. As long as you have some basic tools, the process should be a breeze.
“This hobbit house is a magical work of art,” one reviewer writes. “Stunning craftsmanship, solid, well-built little house. I can’t wait until my children outgrow it so I can take it over.”
Prices start at $2,840 for a house without a finished roof, which you’ll have to DIY. Or, you can upgrade to a complete kit and choose one of two roofing options. It costs more, but one reviewer recommends “getting all the available upgrades” to help extend the life of the playhouse for generations.
