This Home Brand Creates Stylish Furniture From Recycled Milk Jugs
Sustainability enthusiasts, rejoice! The renaissance of stylish, eco-friendly furniture continues. In the same vein as Sabai’s elegant velvet couches made from recycled water bottles, a new sustainable home brand has also turned to eccentric and innovative, planet-friendly means of product creation. Hoek Home is a new line of flat-pack furniture that could be assembled and disassembled in seconds, no tools or hardware required. More notably, the collection is made from recycled plastic milk jugs.
With a price point that ranges between $199 and $799, Hoek’s collection includes coffee tables (in both a round or rectangular shape), a side table that doubles as a stool, a bench, a home office desk, and a six-seater dining table. The tabletops are made from sustainably sourced plywood. The legs and chassis of the products, used to click together the pieces of the furniture without tools, on the other hand, are made from 100% recycled milk jugs that are shredded, compressed, and milled into furniture at Hoek’s shop in Brooklyn, New York.
All products are made to order. Modern and stylish by design, the pieces come in three different surface level colors (walnut, natural birch, or black) and two chassis colors (white or black) to choose from. Ideal for small apartment dwellers, the legs can be clipped back into the base of the furniture for easy storage (see: under the couch or bed, opening up more square footage) and transport. The natural finish of each product also allows for seamless integration with most existing home decor.
