I’m Absolutely in Love with This 70-Year-Old Home’s Perfect Retro Holiday Vibes
“My husband and I bought our 1956 mid-century modern home in November of 2020 after searching for an untouched MCM gem for months,” begins Courtney Batten, owner of Paige Studio, about this 1500-square-foot house in Dallas, Texas.
The house needed a lot of work, but Courtney says she and her husband knew it was the home for them, thanks to the “original terrazzo floors, wood paneling, and adorable period breeze-block carport.” The couple have tackled various home projects in the four years they’ve owned the house in order to “restore the home to its former glory, and are so excited to be able to make it a cozy space to host for the holidays.”
“Our home is a modern reflection of the mid-century era; I wanted to stay true to the warm and earthy palettes that dominated modernist interiors by restoring and celebrating the natural wood in the fireplace and bringing in lots of plants and greenery,” Courtney writes. She advises that folks should “[t]hink about the architecture of your home as well as your own style; working with the character of your space instead of against it will allow you to create a truly unique and stunning space. Also, take your time! Our perfect home has been four years in the making, and we still have projects to tackle!”
