Homemade Holiday Gift Idea!: Knit These Patterned Mittens
Maker: Kathy Lewinski
Skill Level: Medium (if you know how to knit)
Time Required: 8-10 hours
Project Cost: Depends on Yarn Used
If this design looks familiar to you, you might know a certain Irish designer whose first name is Orla. This stem and leaf pattern is inspired by her now iconic design and translates so well to knitted mittens. Anyone would be thrilled to get a pair of these as a gift for the holidays (I know I would). Yes, they take awhile, but just think how happy you’ll make the recipient!
- Sport weight yarn in four colors – approximately 130 yards of the base color and 40 yards of the other three. For these mittens, Kathy used Knit Picks Comfy Sport in Ivory, Planetarium, Marlin and Peapod.
- Tapestry needle
- Scrap yarn, sport weight or thinner
- Stitch markers
- Four size 3 double-pointed needles (or size needed to get gauge)
Knitting chart is above. For the full (free!) pattern, head over to Just Craft Enough.
Many thanks to Kathy and Just Crafty Enough for sharing the pattern and instructions for these mittens. Find more info are on the blog…
