Here’s What It’s Like to Be a Real Estate Agent on House Hunters

It’s not all complaints about ugly paint color and wall-to-wall carpeting. Leslie Remy, owner of Astra Realty in San Antonio, Texas, dished to GuideLive.com about what it’s like to be a real estate agent on an episode of the HGTV hit show “House Hunters.” And while it may look like the real estate agent just pops in for a three quick viewings and to sign a few papers, Remy says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It’s not scripted, so the couple is saying how they really feel about it and their opinions on the home,” she tells the entertainment offshoot of the Dallas Morning News. “To get the perfect shot, they have to continue to repeat their opinion over and over again. There were at least four good shots of each room or of each scene.”

According to Remy, it took eight hours to film just one of the three houses the couple saw on the show.

“We spent close to eight hours filming one house of the three homes the couple will see,” Remy told GuideLive. “It’s a 30-minute show; that’ll probably be less than 10 minutes on TV.”

The lengthy filming times are due to the production crew seeking out “the perfect shot,” and it required the guests to repeat each line about four times.

The producers are also very specific about what guests can wear on the show in front of the cameras. Guests can’t wear necklaces, because they interfere with the microphones, and the color of their clothing is particularly important too.

“They told us to wear some solids — not prints — and to bring an extra outfit,” Remy says. “I brought four extra outfits and they were like, ‘nope, nope, nope.'”

Remy says she ultimately settled on wearing “something boring”: black pants and a solid blue top, with no necklace.
