Name: Nacho and Lorena
Location: Alicante, Spain
Size: 2152 square feet (200 square meters)
Years lived in: Owned 9 months
Husband and wife Nacho and Lorena not only have a beautiful home, they also have a big heart. They're both founders of Aprenent, a center that helps kids with autism, where they create training courses and use psychology as a resource to improve relationships. This home really represents their lifestyle well: They wanted something functional, simple and harmonious, a quiet and relaxing space to enjoy with kids, family and friends.
Light was definitely the principal component. They also have a great distribution of furniture and good storage, which makes it really easy to keep tidy, especially with two little kids. That's why they remodeled the house in a rectangular form with as few doors as possible; the walls create semi-open spaces that makes it easy to walk around.
The big windows that span most of the walls of the house let them see and feel the outside. In Alicante the weather is really warm, so they decided to integrate both sides of the house so they wouldn't miss the beautiful sunlight. With very specific features and an architectural touch, this house is modern with a classic twist of a typical Spanish home for the coast.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: We're very neutral. We love the architecture with straight and simple lines, because then we can change all the decoration according to the season or the trends. We want a place adapted to our lifestyle, where kids can play around without being worried if something could be broken.
Inspiration: We found all the inspiration in Interior Magazines, the internet... Looking always for Nordic style and natural materials.
Favorite Element: We ABSOLUTELY love the terrace. It's really warm almost all year so we love to have a snack outside on the grass, read a book or just relax by the pool.
Biggest Challenge: This is an old house of my grandparents so it was really difficult to keep the essence of '60s architecture adapted to a new age.
What Friends Say: Friends and family love the big kitchen where we can be all together having an amazing time. And of course, they love the pool and they never want to leave!
Proudest DIY: We are making some shelves for the kitchen... but it's still in process.
Biggest Indulgence: Having a place where we can enjoy our home with our kids, being in the living room reading a magazine with them playing there or having a dinner with friends and family on the terrace.
Best Advice: Build your home thinking always about family comfort. A place where you can enjoy having your kids playing around.
