Erin moved from Buffalo, New York just four short months ago, but has already made this eclectic East Nashville space feel like home. The rental is a carriage house, owned by an elderly couple (who according to Erin are the sweetest landlords) and has been renovated with a unique style and focus on functional space.

Erin has styled the one-bedroom home with incredible flair, mixing vintage pieces with modern furniture and artisan-made accents. She herself is an artist, designing and making the incredible leather dream-catchers you see throughout her home. Erin is also a self-proclaimed plant addict and says she “wanders down to the local flower shop at least once a week.” Living in such a vibrant community, close to shops, restaurants and bars adds even more charm to this already adorable house!

My Style: It’s a mixed bag, I suppose mainly Organic Modern with bits of Mid-Century Modern and a little Bohemian thrown in.

Inspiration: Nature has been the biggest inspiration for me in my creative work, and my living space. I really appreciate organic materials; the colors, quality and textures. I also spend an embarrassing amount of time on Pinterest looking through ideas, it’s such an amazing resource.

Favorite Element: I love the openness of the main floor, especially the kitchen area. The high ceiling and windows make it such a light, airy space. I also love the unique trim details the designer used when he built the space.

Biggest Challenge: Definitely storage. I recently left my three bedroom house in Buffalo for a one bedroom apartment in Nashville, so that was an adjustment. Now that I work from home, I spend a great deal of time in here so I need it to be functional but comfortable and not feel as if it’s closing in on me.

What Friends Say: They want to move in! The place itself is so adorable, I had the easy job – all I had to do was decorate.

Biggest Embarrassment: The functional necessities you can’t necessarily hide in a smaller space, like the washer/dryer, HVAC units and the giant IKEA cabinet – which is actually a lifesaver for storage.

Proudest DIY: My leather dream catchers.

Biggest Indulgence: I’ve been lucky to commission a few pieces of custom furniture. The older I get, the more I value the craftsmanship and quality of the real materials used. I view them as investment pieces and I know I’ll keep them for the long haul.

Best Advice: Try not to be too impulsive. If you’re like me, your style tends to change frequently. That couch or expensive rug you’re obsessed with today, you may not love nearly as much in 3 months. Take the time to really think about what you like and make deliberate choices. I also run all of my major purchases past my brother, who is an interior designer. If he gives me the stamp of approval, then I know I’m heading in the right direction.
