Name: Ashley Zohar
Location: West Hollywood – Los Angeles, California
Size: 500 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years, renting

Stylist Ashley Zohar’s eye for design and style was influenced by her mother, who has a vintage shop in LA. As she grew up, her interest in fashion naturally progressed her toward a career as a stylist. Friends began knocking on her door for design advice, and from those jobs came more opportunities, eventually leading to her signing with an agency. She’s styled editorial shoots for brands and publications, as well as styled celebrities. And not surprisingly, her home in West Hollywood is quite well-styled, too.

Ashley was drawn to her West Hollywood apartment for its large open space, natural light, and the fig trees that sit outside her window. Her apartment is carefully decorated with both vintage and new pieces, from an African beaded chair to ceramic cowboy boots, to a custom-leather headboard she designed herself. Most of all, it’s her thoughtful approach to detail — and her desire to make everything a conversation piece — that has created a design-forward environment.

My style: While most of my main pieces are mid-century, I’ve gathered many eclectic items over the years. This helps balance out the interior design so it’s not just one specific style. I would say that there is a masculine theme to many of my pieces — lots of wood, leather, brass, hides and marble.

Inspiration: My mother’s vintage shop.

Favorite Element: I love that you can see the trees through my windows — it makes me feel like I’m in the Robinson Crusoe tree house. And it’s nice to have lush greenery while living in the middle of a city.

Biggest Challenge: Color coordinating the spines of my coffee table books.

What Friends Say: That there is a strong balance between form and function — everything has really great design, while still being very cozy. They are always asking me for interior design advice.

Biggest Embarrassment: Not having central air during hot LA summers.

Proudest DIY: Designing my couches. I’ve had them for over 10 years and I still love them.

Biggest Indulgence: Always having fresh flowers. Living here in LA, we’re so lucky to have the LA Flower Mart — you can always find a large variety of seasonal flowers. Also my local plant shop, the owner is always more than happy to stop by to make sure I’m not killing my plants.

Best Advice: Don’t wait to buy things — if you like it buy it. Splurge on your space and don’t wait to create the environment you desire now.

Dream Sources: Lawson and Fenning and of course, my upholstery guy.
