How Do You Get Home Repairs Taken Care Of When You Work 9-5?

That might seem like a naive question for a 33-year old to be asking, but I've spent my entire career in customer service. When you only ever have weekdays off, accommodating repair people and shop hours is no big deal - but how in the world do the rest of you get things taken care of?

There have been a few repairs/projects to take care of lately (repairmen came out to fix the dryer and garage door, the broken bathroom mirror needs to be taken to a glass shop and replicated, the old truck tires needed to be repaired [fingers crossed it's possible]) and I've been consistently amazed by businesses' limited hours. The glass shops are only open 9-4 M-F, the autobody place closes at 5:30, and the repairmen only make house calls on weekdays from 9-6. I'm currently working from home, so it's worked out fine, but most people don't have that luxury. So tell me: what do you do?

Are you terribly handy, or do you have friends who are? Do you take time off of work for the "be there between 1-5" window? Do you live with household problems because taking time off work is impossible? Or do you have secrets to share with the rest of us? Please tell!
