Q: We have a 10-month-old baby who is starting to crawl and pull up on furniture so we need to babyproof our Mid-century modern Eichler home. The most dangerous area is the open fireplace and the area surrounding it. We plan on pulling the furniture out from beside the fireplace and possibly making it into a seating area with cushions and pillows, and covering up the fireplace area...
The dilemma is that the firebox protrudes from the front of the brick wall surface, and since it's a temporary solution and we're renting, we don't have a way to secure a plywood barrier or gate. Any awesome ideas to cover this area that doesn't involve cardboard and duct tape?! :) I've thought of covering it with a chalkboard surface, but again the dilemma is securing the piece in place temporarily. Thanks in advance. -Sent by Modc
Editor: How does one go about keeping babies away from a fireplace, whether it's an awesome one like Modc's, a massive beast, or an outdated eyesore? What renter-friendly solutions, designs, and products are there for protecting babies from fireplaces and/or fireplaces from babies?
