You've already finished your shopping, you say? You've got some free time over the holidays? Have we got the how-to for you: an awesomely retro wooden sled made from old shipping skids. But this isn't just some self-congratulatory "oh, look at how green and retro we are" toy that looks better than it performs. According to Mother Earth News, which deserves huge kudos for this cool design, "its maneuverability may even be superior [to other sleds] because of the unique isolated steering design!"

And as added bonus, Mother Earth News has even thrown in instructions for making a smaller, simpler version perfect for covetous younger siblings. Now, how cool is that?

See the full instructions, with photos and illustrations, at Mother Earth News.
