How To: Carry Just About Anything On a Bike
So, maybe you’ve decided to go carless and are using a bike to get you around town. Getting yourself from A to B may be simple enough, but what about toting your groceries, kids, pets and other belongings around?
Treehugger has compiled a few great roundups of stylish and functional ways to cart just about any everyday thing around on your bike. Here are a few of our favorite basket, bags and trailors from the list:
1. Queen Bee Panniers
We’re huge fans of Queen Bee Creations and have been using one of their wallets for years – so we’re really excited that they’re now making panniers. They’re waterproof, water tight, PVC and leather free. Panniers are mounted at the sides of the rear wheel and are typically more stable and can carry more weight than front mounted baskets.
Xtracycles are so cool. According to the company, “an Xtracycle is a backseat and a trunk for your bicycle.” By adding on a component called a FreeRadical, the rear of a bike can be extended by 15 inches, which provides an extended area to tote large loads including extra seating, bags and even an extra bike.
3. Basil Baskets and Bags
Basil has hundreds of bike accessories, specifically baskets and bags. The Manka and Mano lines are 100% waterproof bags that fit neatly in the Catu, Cairo and Capri series of baskets. Basil also has a good selection of animal baskets. The Basil website is a must-see for any bicycle basket search.
CycleTotes are well known for carrying along kids on a bicycle ride. But they’re also great for adults, special needs, pets, and hauling anything else that will fit up to 250 pounds. CycleTotes can also be folded up for compact storage.
