A Simple (But Often Forgotten) Spring Cleaning Task to Check Off Your List Today
For today’s spring cleaning assignment, you’ll need to grab a few common supplies and head to the bathroom. The task itself shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, but you’ll need to pick a time when the shower in your home doesn’t have to be serviceable. If you’re lucky enough to have more than one, you can stagger your efforts throughout the day. Even Ellen and her eight bathrooms could get them all done with 20 minutes of actual effort.
TODAY’S 20-MINUTE TASK
Clean Your Showerhead
If you’re not familiar with this simple technique, congratulations! You’re one of today’s lucky 10,000. Find a plastic bag—the ideal one is just big enough to fit your showerhead inside—along with some white or apple cider vinegar and a few rubberbands. Pour some of the vinegar into the bag and wrap the whole thing around the showerhead in your bathroom. Depending on the design of your fixture, this can be kind of an awkward maneuver. If you need to pour the vinegar in around the showerhead, that’s fine too. The end goal is just to have your showerhead submerged in a vinegar bath.
Secure the bag with something like a rubber band or some string, and leave it alone for 30 minutes, or up to a few hours if your showerhead is particularly gunky. Let the vinegar work (while you rest, go to work, exercise, whatever!) to dissolve away scum and residue from hard water.
When time is up, remove the bag, polish it up with a soft cloth and run water through the showerhead for a few moments to flush everything out.
