How To: Convert a Train Table to a Construction Table

Instructables contributor ZebZiggle got the idea for this train table hack when he realized that his little guy likes trucks more than trains. Using styrofoam insulation and some paint, he transformed a train table into a construction zone worthy of any budding young builder. Check out the finished result below the jump.

This project might rank slightly above "novice" in the skill department (Zeb also hacked his own hotwire cutter to carve the foam), but if you've got the wherewithal, it's a cool way to breathe new life into an old toy.

We also like the idea of making the construction site on an alternate surface, if you have the kind of train table with a pop-out surface. That way you can always switch things back if your kid is prone to routine changes of heart. And after you've built the construction site, perhaps you could go on to create other topographically inspiring surfaces...
