Creating a dreamy, oh-so cozy bed is priceless—and, turns out, it doesn’t have to be impossible, either!

In addition to investing in a great mattress, plush pillows, and smooth sheets, mastering the art of layering your bed with quilts, throw pillows, and the occasional fancy sham is the key to turning your bed into a place you’ll never want to leave. We can’t back it up with science just yet, but there’s definitely a correlation between a well-dressed bed and a good night’s sleep.

Play With Neutrals

Want to turn your bed into a dreamy oasis? Neutrals are a surefire way to get the job done. There’s nothing wrong with coating your bed in all gray or taupe, but pairing different neutral tones together. Here, the combination of a white pillow and tan duvet cover make a statement, but still look oh-so soothing.

But Don’t Be Afraid to Add A Pop of Color

Let your love of color take center stage on your bed with a strategically placed pop of color. While a bright, bold duvet isn’t the most relaxing option out there, a scarce assortment of pillows and a throw blanket will put a smile on your face without monopolizing the rest of the room. For hue that will pop against your otherwise neutral beefing, opt for sunny yellow accent pillows and a plush throw

Give Your Bed The Tonal Treatment

They say that two is better than one—and the colors used in your bedding are no exception. If you want to up the design ante with colorful bedding, create a tonal territory with different shades of the same color. This reversible duvet from H&M softens the punchy use of color, plus adds some visual interest to the entire bed. Psst…you can also recreate this look by pairing your cheery sheets with a similarly colored quilt or shams.

And Mix and Match Prints for a Boho Look

Calling all maximalists: This one’s for you. Just because soft neutrals and pared-down patterns are all the rage doesn’t mean you can’t embrace your bold streak. One way to embrace your inner maximalist—without having a space that’s so loud, you’ll lose some precious shut-eye—is to add some fun accent pillows to the mix. Whether they’re velvety, tufted, or fringey, you definitely won’t want to kick them off of your bed. Throw a waffled blanket on top in a bright hue, and you’ll probably look forward to making your bed every day!

Opt for All White

Okay, be honest: You can never resist an all-white bed. There’s something about all-white sheets, shams, and duvets that oozes a hotel-like quality. If you want to give your bedroom the five-star treatment, try coating your bed in some organic cotton sheets and top it off with a luxe-feeling duvet.

And Definitely Experiment With Texture

Of course, an all-white bed can run the risk of looking, well, sterile. If you’re looking to warm up your bed without throwing your entire spread off-kiltered, go ahead and play with texture. A melange of materials like knit, fringe, raised polka dots, faux mongolian, as well as a textured lumbar pillow will add a little something extra without cramping your style.
