Here’s How To Help the Victims of the Los Angeles Fires

Wildfires are raging across Southern California this week, with blazes covering an area as big as the city of Orlando. As of Wednesday, thousands have been forced to evacuate in Ventura County and surrounding areas. If you’re wondering how you can help, we’ve compiled a partial list of organizations supporting the victims of these disasters.

The largest fire has been dubbed the Thomas Fire, and the local Ventura County chapters of the United Way and American Red Cross have teamed up with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office to create the Thomas Fire Fund, according to ABC 7. You can donate by texting UWVC to 41444 or by heading to United Way’s website. If you’re local to the LA area, the American Red Cross is also looking for volunteers.

YouCaring has created a landing page of verified funds that help victims, as has GoFundMe.

Catholic Charities is accepting gently used clothing and Christmas gifts in person at their Ventura Community Services Center at 303 N. Ventura Ave. in Ventura, CA. They have also set up a fund to help with the cost of rebuilding and home repairs, which can be contributed to on their website.

You can help the shelters who have taken in tons of animals in the wake of the fires by donating supplies to the Humane Society in person at their shelter in Ojai, or by making monetary donations via their website. The Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation is also accepting donations for their disaster relief fund.

And don’t forget the people affected in the northern part of the state. Here’s a verified GoFundMe landing page of funds to help the victims of those October fires, and the LA Times has a great list of additional efforts, as well.
