A Tiny Swedish Apartment Makes the Most of 355 Square Feet

We love a teeny apartment, and we especially love a teeny apartment that proves that you can have it all in a small space: a cozy bedroom nook, plentiful storage, great lighting, and even the gourmet kitchen of your dreams.

This little Stockholm apartment, currently listed on Nooks, manages to squeeze all that into a footprint of 33 square meters (about 355 square feet). The floor plan, which is quite open, doesn’t waste any space. There’s a little nook to provide privacy for the bed, but said nook is just wide enough for the bed, and nothing more. A window in the wall that separates the bed nook from the kitchen allows light to flow through the space. Some may look at this bed, tucked into its little corner, and feel claustrophobic, but to me it’s quite cozy: after all, what do you really in a bedroom, besides a place to sleep? Add a curtain across the opening and you have practically all the advantages of a traditional bedroom.

The rest of the living space is kept relatively open, with a sofa for lounging, and a dining table (with a leaf to potentially accommodate more guests). The style, and placement, of the sofa means that people sitting there can converse with others sitting at the table—or with people perched on the bed, which can function as a second piece of seating. (The two stools, which serve as end tables in the photos, can also be pulled into service as seating. In a small space, multitasking pieces are especially handy.)

A shelf, with hooks and shoe storage underneath, helps to squeeze the most possible storage out of a small entrance hall. And then we come back around to the kitchen, which is quite small but, thanks to the peninsula on one side, has plenty of prep and storage space. It’s also one of the most stylish small kitchens I’ve ever seen, with a farmhouse sink, open shelving, and even a Smeg fridge. In a small space, every square foot matters — and the designers of this little apartment have found a way to make the most of them all.
