Ok, we're not even going to try and hide it. This post is a serious ode to summertime rooftop hang outs. Not enjoying being on your roof in the summer is like saying you don't like brunch... it's simply against human nature. So if you wish to deny yourself your god-given right to relax on your rooftop and enjoy a peaceful summer afternoon, we won't stop you but please leave now. For those sane people who are left, let us tell you some cheap and easy ways to enjoy your roof with some inexpensive tech and accessories.
Memorex Party Cube $90
This little giant is a powerhouse of a music player. It is extremely small and lightweight but plays some decent quality audio for you and your guests. The rechargeable battery will easily last you the day and will simultaneously charge your iPhone/iPod while it's plugged in. The rugged design features 4 multi directional speakers so you can sit it in the middle of the party but it also has a rubberized foot so it won't get damaged on the roof's rough surface or if something happens to spill on the floor. This is really the no-brainer option when considering a sub $100 portable stereo.
Memorex Portable Speaker $18
If you're looking to scale the party back and are hoping to enjoy a peaceful and low-key evening to yourself, this portable speaker might be all you need to use in order to get the tunes a'flowing. It has an internal cable management system so it doesn't get messy and plugs into the auxiliary headphone jack on your mp3 player. It requires 3 AAA batteries but boasts an impressive sound for such a micro speaker.
CB2 Smart Candle Light $10
These little beauties will give you the look and feel of a slowly burning candle without the fire hazard and clean up of a real one. Instead, these suckers will run off of AAA batteries and give you that calm, flickering glow, perfect for setting the mood for an evening on the roof.
IKEA Solvinden $8 & $40
These solar-powered table lamps and floor lamps are an excellent way to save energy yet brighten up your night-time party. Use the table lamps if you want a dim setting but the floor lamp would be perfect for reading privately. These lamps are (obviously) approved for outdoor usage so no need to lug them inside and out every time you want to go to the roof. (But if you're not allowed to leave things up there due to a landlord or CoOp board, you can easily pick up the smaller ones and carry them with you.)
Now all you have to do is get yourself a cooler, some brewskies, a few foldable chairs (oh and a roof) and you have yourself a happening party.
