How to Save a Table Chewed by a Dog?

Q: My dog has chewed the corner of this mid-century modern coffee table [see photo below]. Since the top is wood veneer, it can’t easily be sanded down and re-stained. Should I repair with wood filler and paint the top a glossy white, leaving the base as is? Cover with a piece of marble or other stone? -Sent by Tracy

My damage is the result of a weight collar failing to hold a plate on a bar… Anyway, readers, what should Tracy and I do to save our lovely coffee tables?
