Q: My dog has chewed the corner of this mid-century modern coffee table [see photo below]. Since the top is wood veneer, it can’t easily be sanded down and re-stained. Should I repair with wood filler and paint the top a glossy white, leaving the base as is? Cover with a piece of marble or other stone? -Sent by Tracy

Editor: Tracy, I am so glad you sent in your question (I’m not glad your coffee table was damaged) because I, too, have a damaged wood veneer-topped mid-century modern coffee table! My damage is the result of a weight collar failing to hold a plate on a bar… Anyway, readers, what should Tracy and I do to save our lovely coffee tables? What do you do when the problem goes way beyond rubbing a walnut on it?
