Word on the street is that Hulger, the company that brought you retro-tastic handsets for your mobile and Skype, are in the final stages of lightbulb development. Their Plumen light bulb design, first posted about on ATNY, has found a manufacturer and investments.
According to a job ad found on Dezeen:
HULGER are in the final stages of designing their first mass production Plumen bulb. With a manufacturer now in place and financial backing in the pipeline, getting the design right is now crucial. We are hoping to find the person who can help us apply the finishing touches to the work we have done so far.
Structurally, the form of the bulb is there, but stylistically it needs fine tuning. It's not a big job but it needs the right kind of skills.
Ideally we'd like to find someone with an acute sensibility of scale, proportion, tension and elegance that can be applied to a tubular arrangement. The tiniest detail in our designs will make an enormous difference to the overall effect so finding the right eye is crucial.
The bulb uses the compact fluorescent tubing as an artistic expression in the bulb. Rather than tightly coiling around each other, the tubing expands out. While we like the idea of making light bulbs more visually appealing, we can't imagine wanting to sit under the blaring light of a bare CF light.
