IKEA Hack: Eugene's Cozy Banquette

030609ikea-03.jpgWe've always been a big fan of cozy kitchen banquettes. To us, there's something about a padded bench wrapped around a table that screams, "pull up a seat and enjoy the morning paper." We're guessing Eugene has similar feelings about a banquette--so he decided to IKEA hack his own...

Using the AKURUM IKEA kitchen cabinets combined with custom vinyl cushions made by an upholsterer, this banquette is quite the inspiration. By using kitchen cabinets, not only is Eugene providing seating--they double as storage below.

In order to make room for the seat cushions, Eugene needed to build out from the wall with wood supports. In addition, for the cabinets to function properly, he built the entire bench on risers. We love the finished look of this cozy kitchen banquette.
