IKEA’s OFF-WHITE Collab Is So Hype, It’s Already Reselling for 3X the Retail Price (And It’s Not Even Out Yet)
Nearly two years have passed since a certain millennial-focused home design collaboration piqued the interest of young adults everywhere, and now we’ve finally got some more solid news about the arrival of the IKEA x OFF-WHITE collection, the much hyped partnership between the home goods giant and Virgil Abloh, the designer behind the popular fashion label.
According to multiple reports, the official release date for Abloh and IKEA’s highly anticipated line—called MARKERAD—is November, just in time to shop for a fall home makeover. The collection is intended to appeal to what Abloh refers to as the “post-Tumblr” generation, or those who appreciate an artsy design aesthetic with a focus on items you’d buy for your first home.
Among the available items are the “WET GRASS” rug, a chic bright green piece that will sell for $263; the “BLUE,” “GREY,” “KEEP OFF” and “STILL LOADING” rugs, priced between $91 and $263; and the distortion mirror for $183. As for lower price points, Abloh’s Mona Lisa lightbox will retail for $49, the oversized receipt rug will retail for $68 and the temporary clock will cost $29. The “SCULPTURE” bag will be available in small and large sizes, for $11.50 and $15, respectively.
We still have to get through a couple of seasons before the collection officially goes on sale, that isn’t stopping consumers who are eager to get their hands on the designs. Various items from the MARKERAD collection have reportedly already hit the resale market, with pieces fetching up to several times more than the retail price.
And if those resell prices are a little to steep for your tastes, there may be hope for you to nab your favorite item before fall. High Snobiety reports that there have been whispers about pop-ups possibly happening in April and May.
