Move Over, Supreme—IKEA’s Releasing Its First-Ever Streetwear Collection

IKEA is a go-to when it comes to closet organization and affordable hacks, but soon the company will be making pieces that will also fill the space and round out your wardrobe.

That’s right, IKEA is set to launch its first-ever line of clothes and accessories at its newly-opened location in the bustling shopping district of Harajuku in Tokyo. The collection is called Efterträda—meaning “successor” in Swedish—and hopes to carry over the brand’s design principles to streetwear.

“Our first ever merchandising collection takes cues from our approach to home-furnishing, with simple, everyday takes on clothes and accessories,” the company said in a press release.

The inaugural release will feature 10 items, including a tote bag, an umbrella, bath towels, water bottles, and a white shirt and hoodie with the IKEA logo on the back and a barcode on the front. “The barcode motif gives a nod to our best-selling product, the Billy Bookcase,” they added.

Efterträda is a collaboration between IKEA Sweden and IKEA Japan, and will be released exclusively at their Harajuku store—a homage to the neighborhood’s rich history of streetwear. The collection will be available at the location from July 31 to August 6. Fingers crossed it will be followed by a worldwide release soon after. 

While this is the Swedish brand’s first official apparel release, enterprising folks have been making clothing pieces out of IKEA products for quite awhile. Some of the most popular have been crafted from the brand’s iconic blue FRAKTA bag, including a
