IKEA Is Going To Release a $10 Smart Plug This Year
Honestly, what doesn’t IKEA sell at this point? They have the best cinnamon buns, tasty hot dogs, furniture, the Frakta storage bag, and so much more. When home shopping, IKEA is basically the only place you’ll actually need to visit to get everything you could possibly need.
IKEA is widely known for their affordable and easy to put together furniture. Essentially, most of their products can be put together with minimal effort and you can do most of it on your own! Though, it never hurts to have a friend with you when assembling things, just as a precaution. And in case you put it together backward, you’ll have someone to laugh at you.
Outside of furniture, IKEA has also delved into technology. IKEA has the Trådfri smart home accessories and they’re now adding even more to their lineup. IKEA is putting two different smart plugs on the market. The smart plugs can make any offline product controllable via a smartphone app or remote.
The smart plug comes in two options. The first option is a “control outlet kit” that has an on/off remote and it will be $15. The second option is a “wireless control outlet” and that will be $10. It will attach magnetically to metal surfaces and will have a range via remote of about 30 feet. The IKEA smart plug will be accessible via Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Homekit.
The report about IKEA’s smart plugs comes from a Swedish tech site, Teknikveckan. IKEA has yet to make the official announcement, though reports say it will be available in retail stores in October 2018. Initial photos of the Trådfri smart plugs have already been leaked online as well. We can’t wait to hear more from IKEA and see what other tech gear they come out with next.
