After scoring one for a few bucks at a yard sale, my son has since acquired two more of these wood playsets from Imagiplay and it felt time to give them a shout out here. They're surprisingly affordable for the quality and several come with their own storage which gets a big thumbs up from me.
They're made from Rubberwood ("an environmentally-friendly hardwood") and the pieces are nice and chunky. There are six sets - we have the arctic expedition, zoom to the moon and a day at the farm - which each have enough pieces for lots of imaginative play but not so many that they wind up all over the apartment. Except for the ark, the largest set, which rings in at around $100, the sets are a modest $27. And since the pieces are similarly sized they can all go together if your kids want to send another monkey into space.
You can see the playsets in more detail on Imagiplay's website where you can purchase them directly. I often see them at the local toy shops in my neighborhood so you might check locally first before ordering online.
