Of all the extraordinarily creative seating options we’ve found and subsequently fawned over, this artistic indoor/outdoor armchair has to be one of our faves thus far.

This unique seating option, known as Felix, is the result of a collaboration between industrial designer Christian Vivanco and furniture company Los Patrones. Unlike your traditional patio pieces, Felix has the range to help you pull together a dramatic porch design theme and it could just as easily serve as that go-to spot in the living room where you plop down and read a book in front of a cozy fire. And just picture it crawling with a vine-y plant like Pothos.

According to DesignBoom, Vivanco and Los Patrones developed the Felix armchair based on design themes from 1950s Mexico, an era in which “paraboloid structures and arches defined the country’s identity in a strong and modern way.” Of the chair’s arched accents, the site adds, “This link to the past brings to Felix a classic but contemporary identity, in which the forms respond to factors that are not only ornamental but functional in practical and symbolic terms.”

The Felix armchair is made of tubular steel and polyurethane foam, highlighting a smart balance of soft and industrial characteristics.

If you, too, flatly refuse to allow your furniture to be bound by an unwritten rule that says it has to fit neatly into an indoor or outdoor category, Vivanco has other pieces that demonstrate his affinity for playfully blurring the line between what stays in or out. For instance, his lawn-like sofa – appropriately named The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Fence – features modular green cushions and a back that resembles a picket fence, which gives you the feeling of what it’s like to lie out on the lawn without risking an allergy flare-up.
