Inside Out: A showcase for those who transform their residences into homes via innovative intervention

Name: Nick and Rena
Location: Venice
Size: 1500 sqft, 2 bdrm duplex

Rena and Nick were fortunate enough to have obligations in Venice this summer. So, they rented an apartment and suffered through a month in paradise.

Living in a 300 year old home is not really big news in Italy, but it is still awe-inspiring, and on a short-term stay, does not get old any time soon.

Food and history are very important to Rena and Nick so Venice suited them just fine. The apartment is a place that is often rented out to academics passing through, so it has a feeling of home even though it isn't. The strangest find, however, was a kitchen drawer filled with 17 nutcrackers!

Years lived in: 1 month
Favorite element: the roof deck outfitted with dining table
Biggest Challenge: the five flights up
