Inspiration: Adding Spring Color To Your Home

Although the thermometer was wavering in the 30s this morning, our hyacinths are beginning to bud and I just spotted the first crocus buried under frost. The fresh color against the muddy winter backdrop is just enough to keep the hope of warmer days alive. How about inviting the color indoors too?

Live Like You's Jill Sorensen is always whipping up fabulously colorful creations to incorporate into her homes and those of her clients. I love her modern take on the painted fireplace screen, which gives the quintessential winter spot a fresh face for spring.

• I know many people with seasonal collections of pillow covers, lamp shades, and throws that they rotate with the changing weather, and this year may be the one that I follow suit. A bright shade on a neutral sofa is often enough to transform the whole flavor of a room.

• Painted furniture may be one of the most highly debated topics among readers, but any thrift store junkie will attest to the fact that sometimes ugly veneers just call out for a coat of color. A painted traditional piece gives a classic room a youthful spring flavor, and the best part is that the color can be changed when the mood strikes.
