Green thumb? Not us. We swear we must emit a lot of carbon monoxide; mosquitos love us but plants? Not so much. But this year, we're tempted to start a succulent garden after seeing this one at a friend's house.

Hanging in an openwork iron basket, so even we couldn't overwater it, and open to the sun, it fulfills the requirements that plants need to live in our home: easy care, drought tolerant, pretty, durable and native. Wrought iron or cast iron hanging baskets can be found at your local nursery; we also found one at Plow & Hearth and at Smith & Hawken
