Best advice:

Don’t beat yourself up as everyone makes mistakes and tradespeople have gone through a trade course to get their skills, so you are not going to be a champ straight out of the gates. Use that mistake as experience.

Just remember that no matter or how big or small the project is, take the time to understand the process, materials and tools required before starting! The more time spent upfront to organize it, results in a more enjoyable, inexpensive & more professional finish.
