Jackie O’s Martha’s Vineyard Estate Is for Sale for $65 Million

Now that it’s summer, vacationers are flocking to Martha’s Vineyard for long weekends and getaways. But if you’re looking to make a more permanent move (and you have a few million in the bank), a truly special piece of real estate just hit the market: Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ gorgeous Martha’s Vineyard estate.

The oceanfront property, called Red Gate Farm, is listed with Christie’s International Real Estate and is for sale for $65 million. It sits on 340 private acres along the New England coastline and has over a mile of private beach on the Atlantic Ocean.

The main residence has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a formal sitting room, drawing room, living room, family room, library, dining room, large chef’s kitchen, two decks, and numerous fireplaces. Nearly every room overlooks the sand dunes and the sea.

Jackie O purchased the estate, a former sheep farm, in 1979. For the last 40 years, she, her children, and grandchildren spent their summers immersed in nature on the property. Now, Jackie O’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy, is looking for the next steward to care for the ecological treasure.

“Forty years ago, my mother fell in love with Martha’s Vineyard,” Ms. Kennedy said, according to a press release from Christie’s International Real Estate. “When she found Red Gate Farm, it was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit. The dunes and ponds and rolling hills of Aquinnah gave her the chance to create a world where she could be so close to nature, close to her family and friends, and, most importantly, close to her beloved books. She even built a fairy treehouse for her grandchildren. Those grandchildren are grown so now it is time for us to follow my mother’s example and create our own worlds. We hope that a new family will treasure this place as we have for three generations. We are excited about the next chapter for Red Gate Farm.”

The estate also boasts a guest house, caretaker’s house, pool, tennis court, exercise studio, hunting cabin, barn, boathouse, storage building, garages, vegetable garden, and blueberry patch.
