Jamie's Colorful Rental in Florida

Name: Jamie
Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

We went from owning a 2 bedroom condo in Austin, Texas to renting a one bedroom apartment in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I can vouch for that fact that renting makes sprucing up a place tricky.

Painting walls was not an option for us, and thus embracing the white walls was what we did. My dark grey CB2 couch doubles as a guest bed and the white, slightly shag, rug allowed me the flexibility to play with color. With a neutral base, I decided to add inexpensive pops of color with pillows, wall art, and accessories. The entire thing was done for $134 including an 8x10 rug on sale from Target!

I recovered 5 of my existing pillows with funky, bright patterns, colors, and textures. I used bright yellow spray paint to give 5 inexpensive frames a new look and inserted Van Gogh prints that my grand father gave me years ago. I used the same spray paint to give new life to an old metal end table. Next, I used felt and old canvases to create one of kind art that resembles the pattern of my $15 inspiration pillow.

The kitchen is tiny. It literally as one drawer. I used the living toom spray paint to spruce up a $5 door and make use of the wall space. Hanging shelves on the walls is not an option since we have cement walls to protect us from hurricanes! The door organizer was an inexpensive way to utilize wall space, organize kitchen gadgets, and add a pop color to our tiny kitchen.

Thanks, Jamie!
