Is Jennifer Lopez Hiring Joanna Gaines to Rehab Her Malibu Home?
Even J. Lo likes a Fixer Upper. It turns out that actress/singer/mega-mogul Jennifer Lopez is an HGTV fan just like the rest of us. Thanks to some finagling from boyfriend Alex Rodriguez, it looks like Lopez working with “Fixer Upper” alum Joanna Gaines to renovate her new Malibu home.
Rodriguez and Lopez dropped $6.6 million on a sprawling three-floor home in the luxe California beach community last month, but as she told Ellen DeGeneres, the four-bed, three-bath home needs a bit of work.
“I’m obsessed with ‘Fixer Upper,’ do you guys know Joanna Gaines?” Lopez asked the crowd at “Ellen,” as if we were like, mole people or something. “So I’m obsessed with it. We got this we got a little fixer upper, next to the water, and we were like ‘oh, we gotta fix this up.’ It’s a house that needs work.”
Lopez continued to explain that while she knew it would be amazing to hire Gaines, getting the HGTV queen out of Waco wouldn’t possibility. But that’s where A-Rod came in.
“He opens up the FaceTime, and it’s Joanna Gaines,” Lopez told Ellen. “I was like, AH! I totally fan-girled out. I was like, oh my god are you kidding me?”
Lopez says that while her and Alex’s design aesthetics tend to differ (“He’s a little bit more on the modern, masculine side. He goes all the way modern. Stones, and woods, and marbles, and I’m like, can we have a pillow?”) they’re committed to giving the Malibu home an overhaul.
And clearly, something is in the works: Just a few days ago, Jennifer and Joanna (carrying baby Crew!) were spotted standing on the beach looking at the home… with a camera crew in tow. Could this be something for the Gaines’ new network? Unfortunately, it seems the reality show of our dreams starring the design duo might not happen.
“There is no formal plan for any of the footage and there have not been any final decisions made in terms of whether Joanna will be involved [in designing the house] or to what extent,” a source told PEOPLE. We’ll just have to wait and see.
