Joanna Gaines Just Dropped 5 Dreamy Nature-Inspired Paint Colors (You’ll Want to Use Them All!)
If you love the inside of your home to feature designs inspired by everything that’s outside of it, this new paint collection from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines is for you. Alongside the new season of Fixer Upper called Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse, Gaines is launching her Lakehouse Collection, which includes five new hues and two existing Magnolia colors.
The new shades are Tranquil Waters, a neutral gray with a hint of blue; Superior, a true blue; Cognac, an earthy reddish brown; Juniper Tree, a soft sage; and Remote Trail, a more rich green that Joanna used in the kitchen of her latest lakeouse flip. These five paint colors join Wooded Acres, a brownish green, and Blanched, a warm beige, both of which are on current offer from Magnolia Home.
Gaines tells Apartment Therapy that the new palette feels very grounding and saturated without feeling too bold. “It kind of brings all the colors that are in the current palette down to earth,” she says, adding that these tones play well with all of the roughly 155 colors in the Magnolia library.
“Truly, nature was the inspiration here,” Gaines says of the collection. “When we first start on a project, we always start with: What’s the color story of this home?” That can be found in paint, trim, light fixtures, and even throw pillows, Gaines says. And in Fixer Upper’s lake house project, the color story was all about letting the gorgeous surroundings shine.
“When I wanted to go more bold in these bigger spaces, I felt like I was almost in some ways competing a little bit with what was on the other side of the window,” Gaines recalls. “If you see the house, you’ll see that most of the wall colors are primarily the Blanched white, which is a creamy white.”
One surprising spot where Gaines chose to go a little bolder was with the greenhouse on the existing lakehouse property. She was initially going to go with a cream, but she ultimately chose the Juniper Tree color. “I knew what was coming after that, which was going to be all these variations of greens — whether that be cactus or ivies — and all that that color did was tell a stronger story once everything got into that space, and I was so excited that I had chosen a color,” she says.
She also loves the green she chose for the home’s exterior, Wooded Acres. “Originally they had a pretty neutral color trim, and I wasn’t going to paint the brick, but I really wanted to make sure this house felt like there was a nice before and after transformation on the exterior,” she says. “The idea that this house is nestled in the woods — I wanted it to be a seamless design story … that trim just was a nice accent to what it was surrounded by.”
Gaines says it took her about 20 different options to land on Wooded Acres, but once she saw it, she knew it was right. Now, she’s hoping that her new collection makes things simple for others who are looking to create a nature-inspired space. “I just love that it’s in this capsule of sorts,” she says.
