Joanna Gaines might be busy taking care of her newborn, Crew, but that won't stop her from sharing advice for all the current and would-be plant parents out there. The summer issue of Magnolia Journal is out, and Jo has tips galore for her latest plant obsession.
What leafy houseplant is on Joanna's must have list? It's the sculptural, showstopping staghorn fern.
"The wide, drooping leaves of this fern make a statement wherever I place it," Jo says in a caption on the Magnolia Instagram account. "What's even better? It takes almost no work to keep it looking great!"
Here are a few other reasons why we love it:
It's perfect for small spaces
From our list of the best small space plants:
If you're running short on surfaces to place a plant, but want the foliage and air-cleaning benefits that our green friends provide, consider a staghorn fern. Antler-like fronds shoot out of these funky ferns. When mounted on wooden plaques, they make the most of any vertical space.
It doubles as wall art
If you're mounting a staghorn, you're not just saving space, you're creating a statement piece. We have a whole tutorial on how to create your very own living art.
It's out of reach of your pets
While it's up there on your wall looking cool and not taking up surface area, it's also presumably out of reach of your four-legged friends, who might be tempted to nibble on some fronds otherwise. (Check out our favorite pet-friendly plants here.)
They look really cool
