If you spend a lot of time in your home office, you'll have to get organized because working in chaos is possible, but not always conducive to the best results. This is one of the reasons why we like John Rainsford's setup. It's organized and it doesn't take John long to find whatever he is looking for. The overall setup is also quite affordable, which is an advantage.
John Rainsford is an Irish webdesigner by day over at Pixelcode. This means that he spends a lot of time in his office, working away. John qualifies his overall setup pretty minimal, but it has been optimized to his space, which is always good. He uses a mixture of basic IKEA furniture, from the Vika Amon/Curry table in white, to the Expedit shelves on the right. He also uses some second-hand office furniture.
What distinguishes his home office from others is that everything is organized, from his pencils to his books. We definitely like seeing this, because even if he doesn't have that much room, keeping it neat and tidy will make it seem a lot better. He also has a nice window, which makes working daily on your workstation that much easier.
He currently uses a 20-inch Apple Cinema Display, which he likes, but admits that he might have to upgrade soon. While John doesn't have our innate dislike of visible wires, his setup is pretty clean. The left corner office drawers hold his pens and other implements, which each drawer being correctly labeled.
