Julia's Folk and Flock

Julia's Folk and Flock

Name: Julia (4)
Location: Scotch Plains, NJ

Color Inspiration: At the tender age of 18-months, a few months before Julia's baby sister made her arrival, I moved Julia, now 4-years-old, into this room. The nursery Julia moved from was a serene, calm and muted space. I wanted to create a "big girl room" that would be colorful, fun and rooted in some history. Julia is the first American-born in our Russian immigrant family and we strive to keep her heritage alive. Many of the toys and books in her room are from my own childhood.

Color Inspiration continued: Besides my sentimental attachment to folk themes, I happen to love the aesthetic of it as well though I mix it quite a bit with the modern looks I also enjoy. I am also drawn to various bird imagery. Something about the idea of my home being a cozy and safe "nest" for my babies appeals deeply to me.

Tip for Using Color: Don't match, coordinate! Pay close attention to what inspires you and try to recreate it in your home. Meaningful items that don't seem to "match" the space have a way of fitting in anyway

I used to think a good color scheme was all about matching. Nowadays, I find well coordinated but completely mismatched items to be so much more appealing. A ton of my inspiration comes from AT, of course.

Colors Used: Oranges, Reds, Blues, Greens... all colors welcome!

Thanks for your colorful entry Victoria and good luck!
