Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: We purchased our fixer-upper home in 2017, shortly before the birth of our second daughter, Josie. Josie was born via surrogacy, so we spent the few months we had before her birth taking our very dated 1910 farmhouse and making it livable.

When Josie turned one, we went into full-blown renovation mode in the fall of 2018, and have since fully renovated four rooms in our home: our living room, our one full bathroom, our kitchen, and Josie’s room. We have quite a few more rooms to get to, but we love doing the work. I take on the designs, while my husband tackles the construction. Our six year-old, Eva, is quite patient about our never-ending construction zone, and loves giving us ideas for our next projects.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: A vintage-inspired eclectic farmhouse

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is our new library space. I love curling up with a good book and I was able to decorate this space with abandon and just have fun with it. I also love house plants, so we added grow frames to the library shelves to make the space come alive with greenery and the tales waiting to be read inside the vintage books adorning the shelves.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I thrift for a living. No, seriously! I sell my vintage and thrifted finds through my website, and 90% of the things in our home were thrifted. My most recent score was the vintage leather armchair in our library space (our dog, Ripley, is seen relaxing on it). I scored it for $80 at a gorgeous waterfront estate on Long Island.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Buy what you love and don’t think too hard about it! I go thrifting and go to estate sales on a regular basis and I just pick up everything I like. I take it home, try it out, and if it doesn’t work, I sell it.

And you don’t need an online vintage shop to do that. With the popularity of Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, and other sites, we can all afford to bring those thrift finds home (and get our money back, or even make a few bucks, if it doesn’t work out).
