You know what sounds pretty fun? Doing a surprise renovation for someone you care about. Like a surprise party, but instead of “surprise, we actually remembered your birthday!” it’s like—”surprise, now your bathroom looks awesome!” And while planning an unexpected remodel might be a little out of reach for the average person, on Houzz, you can watch celebrities do just that.

As part of their video series My Houzz, you can watch famous folks from Mila Kunis to Tony Hawk surprise their loved ones with new digs. The latest in the series is Kate Upton, who, together with Andrea and Rik Fava of Motivo Home, transformed two bathrooms and the master bedroom of her older sister Christie’s Florida home. Growing up, Kate explained, her sister was always taking care of her younger siblings, “So it’s nice to be able to reverse the roles and take care of her.”

The rooms to be redone included the master bathroom, which was definitely stuck in the early ’90s, style-wise, and the master bedroom, which had generous proportions but needed a little sprucing up to realize its full potential. In the bathroom, two sinks met awkwardly at right angles, so Christie and her husband Matt were always bumping into each other while getting ready in the morning. The solution that Andrea and Kate came landed on was to remove a wet bar in the master bedroom (yes, a wet bar—another relic of the ’90s) and use the extra space for a more generous double vanity. The new vanity has a streamlined look, but the chandeliers and scalloped mirrors add a touch of glamour.

Christie’s favorite color is blue, so with that in mind, the master bedroom got a major upgrade with wallpaper and accessories in a mix of soothing blues and calming neutrals. One of our favorite touches is the new canopy bed, a perfect choice for a larger bedroom. It suits the scale of the room, but also makes the sleeping space feel nice and cozy.
