Name: Katie Osborn
Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York
Size: 550 square feet
Years lived in: 9 years; rented

Katie is the Owner and Creative Director of The Office of Katie Osborn. Her home is a true reflection of her passion for environmental design, maps, typography, color, and the work/life balance. Overlooking Prospect Park, this two-bedroom apartment has a place for everything: one bedroom serves as a place for meetings and making deadlines, while the two french doors tuck away the work when it's time to relax.

Katie has shared her home office with freelance designers, architects, artists, and fellow strategists, so her space needs to be entertaining and comfortable, yet functional for business.

Katie thinks outside the box both in her work and home decor. The entryway greets you with a rich eggplant, a bold choice for such a narrow space. It is this dark purple against the white molding and doors that really make the hallway pop. The living room ceiling is painted the same green as the walls, a refreshing alternative to the typical white ceiling. And it doesn't hurt that this pre-war apartment has so many of the beautiful details you find in old Brooklyn buildings: moldings, wood floors, clawfoot tub. The kitchen cabinets give the room a fresh, contemporary look, and go well against the room's sunny yellow walls. Katie also offers a fun visual solution for a large collection of handbags: display them on your bedroom wall! This adds a great pop of color to white walls, while showcasing pretty accessories you may not use every day.

Katie's two-year old cats are also a big part of her apartment. Bella (white paws) and her sister Franny are friendly kitties that come right up and say hello, while following each other's steps and movements as though they were mirror images. Several of the cat scratchers are mod pieces from Marmalade Pet Care. In this beautiful home, even Katie's pets have impeccable taste.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: An eclectic mix of color & antiques.

Inspiration: Modern graphic design, antique stores, bold colors, and my view of the Park.

Favorite Element: The Arne Jacobson Egg Chair.

Biggest Challenge: Organizing the space efficiently.

What Friends Say: Jealous of the park view, and love all the color.

Biggest Embarrassment: I could never figure out a proper dining table.

Proudest DIY: All the painting! My mom is an interior designer and is great with color and balance. She helped me pick colors and figure out a way to have all the boldness in one apartment. The magenta office and purple hallways only work because of the green living room with beige/brown in between.

Biggest Indulgence: The pink Jacobson Egg Chair (A birthday gift to myself).

Best Advice: Don’t be afraid of color, but do test a lot of 2’ squares on your walls… direct vs indirect light affects it, so it’ll never look the same on the swatch.

Dream Sources: Design Within Reach, Rural Minnesota Antique stores, Brooklyn
