No doubt about it, in a tiny kid's room, up is the way to go. And when you're lacking in space for storing toys, installing shelving might just be the solution you're looking for. But how exactly does one make "up" look good? Here are 5 nurseries/kids spaces that did wall shelf storage right.

1. Olivia and Sebastian's room on A Merry Mishap (above) use two Ekby Gallo wall shelf systems from IKEA on top of each other. Add a bunch of fun boxes and baskets and voila - a place to store all those teeny-tiny trinket toys that kids collect but never seem to have a home.

2. Wowee, just look at that beautiful shelf. This combo of white and wood in Henrik's room is probably a DIY, but a similar shelf in all white has been around for ages at IKEA. Henrik's Mom offers some great tips for setting up a kids' shelf to look great over on her blog, One More Mushroom. Be sure to check that out!

3. When toy collections get big: something like this modular shelving system from Oh Happy Day (nothing fancy, just a local hardware store find) could be the answer. Shelves are hung low so that small kids have the right toys within their grasp (more collectable items are left higher up). See-through bins allow kids to find what they are looking for with ease.

4. These Ekby shelves in Reed's nursery are anchored by the three easily accessible bins from Restoration Hardware that sit below them. It might seem crazy to splash out on big floor bins, but think of how long they will last and how much storage they add to the room. While these shelves are roomy now - there is definitely space here for Reed as he, and his toy collection, grows.

5. Jasper's parents had owned these interesting shelves for a long time and decided to use them in their son's room. Not only do they hold a lot, they add a ton of visual interest to Jasper's room. It's a great reminder to "shop" your home when putting together a nursery as a way of incorporating your overall style into your child's room.
