Kijiji Free Local Classifieds

We’re big fans of Craigslist – most of the furniture in our house has been bought through the bare-bones online classifieds system and we’ve also had a lot of luck selling the pieces we’ve grown tired of on the site. Until today we’ve never seen a competitor that we thought even came close to being as easy and free to use, and then someone sent us a link to Kijiji.

It’s basic set up is a lot like CL, but the look is much more polished. They’ve also added some features that Craigslist doesn’t have, including thumbnails of photos and descriptions that show up when you search listings (no need to click into the ad,) and the ability to e-mail the person from the site, eliminating the annoying copying and pasting of an e-mail address or opening up of a separate mail application.

Since Kijiji is relatively new, there’s not that much on it yet – as of this posting there were only 229 items for sale in the Bay Area furniture section. But this is the first time we’ve seen a serious contender move into the arena with Craigslist.

What do you think? Will you give Kijiji a try? Or are you loyal to trusty old CL till the end?
