Every night we have to wrangle our three cats out of the kitchen and living room and into our bedroom. We do this so we can shut some doors and keep our freestanding heater from pumping hot air where it's not needed. Wrangling always ends up with a game of chase the cats around the house, which is always at a time when running around the house is the last thing we want to do. So how did we fix the problem? We turned to the iTunes store.
There are several iPod Touch/iPhone apps available that turn your mobile into a one-stop cat effects sound studio. We downloaded Kitty Deluxe, which loads more than 35 meows and purrs into your device and the audio is so real that your pets will absolutely and positively be convinced there's a colony of little kitties in your iPod.
While the app is great when you need a laugh, it's also super handy when, as mentioned above, you need to get your cats from one room to the other. Say you're getting furniture delivered and you don't want Skittles running out the front door, just lure them into another room with the cat calls from your phone.
Plus, during a time when it seems like there isn't a section of the U.S. that isn't being hit by rain, snow, or sleet, you'll be psyched for this inexpensive way to ease both your and your cat's cabin fever. Just beware, the app may cause kitties to stress out so use it kindly.
And if you want to see one of these apps in action, check out this video from OnSugar's blog Milo Minousky's Munchkinland, which tested the app, Cat Sounds, with her kitties. We found the audio for this app subpar to Kitty Deluxe, but it seems to work with Milo and Minou.
