LA Mini-House Tour: Michael’s Modern 1955 Home
Location: Palm Springs, CA
Size: 1,250 sq/ft
Years lived in: Own (3 bdrm/2 bath home)
This Friday we’re fortunate enough to have two house tours from our new tryout writers. The first is from Rebecca and a mini-house tour of a quintessential MidCentury dwelling in sunny Palm Springs:
Stepping into Michael’s 1955 Palm Springs home feels like a modern time warp – past or future! Michael’s desert home is full of textured accents he picked up on his worldly travels mixed with his love of classic modern style with a color twist. Thoughtful in his design, Michael’s use of bright orange as an accent works beautifully throughout his space…
My/Our style: Mid-century modern
Inspiration: Richard Neutra structure with a Rat pack meets the Jetsons interior design
Favorite Element: The gorgeous mountain views from our living room and front pool.
Biggest Challenge: Creating intimate spaces in an open floor plan.
What Friends Say: “Lets party!”
Biggest Embarrassment: Champagne stains on the cowhide rugs from Buenos Aires
Biggest Indulgence: As a housewarming gift, my friends arrived with a 7ft metal yellow giraffe that they had found at an auction. It was formally at a children’s playground and now sits in my front rock garden and greets my guests.
Best advice: Bring the texture and the environment around you inside your home.
Green Choice: We use all eco-friendly cleaning products, like method, and we have a salt-water pool.
