Laser Engraved Eee: Super Mario Goodness

Laser-engraving is a great way to set your laptop apart from all of the rest. Laser-engraving can be done for a lot of different devices, from phones, to iPods, to PMPs. There is no denying the fact that they look great. The only problem is the cost and the fact that you'll upgrade your device in a year or so and then you'll have to do it all over again.

The Asus Eee PC belongs to Chris Maguire. He got it etched at NYC Resistor. He completed the etching on January 16th and laser-etched the top of his Eee PC. He used the complete level maps from Super Mario Land from the Nintendo Game Boy. The etching was made using a laser cutter. From the website, if you join some NYC Resistor classes, you can get your own laptop etched as well. If you're in NYC, that's probably one of the best ways of getting your laptop etched.

We love laser-etchings. The only problem is when you have to upgrade to another laptop, your precious etchings are left with your old laptop. Still, if it's not too expensive, it's worthwhile because it makes your laptop is set apart from all the others. That can be good and bad. Bad because it's unique and people might want to steal it. Good because it's easy to spot a custom laptop. The glossy black surface of the Eee PC works really well with the laser-etching. We also love how Chris used a level map from Super Mario Land. That's classic! [via Gizmodo, photos by Chris Maguire]
