Lauren’s Jewel Tones

Name: Lauren
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Type of Home: rental studio apartment

Color Inspiration: I live in an L-shaped studio with my boyfriend. These photos show our living room/dining alcove space. Since we don’t have separate rooms in our apartment, I didn’t want to use a strong paint color. Instead I opted to use a more neutral light gray paint and let the furnishings bring color to the room.

Eclectic Jewel Tones

Color Inspiration continued: It’s a challenge making the space flow since we do not have dividing walls. You always run the risk of trying to cram too much into a small space. We have eclectic taste, so it is a matter of finding the right balance.

Colors Used: Sofa – Room and Board “Hutton” Sofa in “Indigo”
Wall Paint – Benjamin Moore “Classic Gray”

Color Tip: I’m a big fan of bright neutral walls to compliment colorful objects and furnishings. Perhaps if I had more natural light in my living room I would use a stronger color on the walls. But I like objects that have a lot of personality.
