One of the world’s most popular artworks has appeared on all sorts of merchandise such as prints, shirts, and mugs. Now, it’s a LEGO set too.

LEGO is selling their own version of Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa as part of their LEGO Art series. The 1,810-piece set features the famous woodblock print in 3D form, with the crashing waves and ill-fated boats seemingly leaping off the page as Mt. Fuji looks on in the background.

The set has other interesting details too. On the upper left, Hokusai’s signature is printed on a decorative tile, similar to the actual artwork. A brick-built frame wraps the painting, offering a smooth finish, while two hanger elements can be used to put up the finished set on your wall.

In addition, LEGO has included an illustrated instruction booklet explaining the history behind the artwork. A QR code, meanwhile, provides a soundtrack that sets the mood while you build the iconic 1800s woodblock print.

“We’re thrilled that fans of art and Japanese culture will get the chance to immerse themselves into the relaxing project of recreating the iconic Great Wave,” said LEGO designer Annemette Nielsen.

She added: “[That’s] not just immersing themselves into the building process, but also getting into the artwork and how that is composed, sparking an interest in Hokusai’s instantly recognizable original and its rich history of almost 200 years.”

Hokusai’s The Great Wave, priced at $99.99, is now available in all LEGO locations and their online store.
