Let It Go: How To Let Yourself Finally Get Rid of Things

Does this sound familiar? One Saturday, you vow that this will be the Saturday that you finally clean out your closet/bathroom cabinet/spare bedroom. You set out, with the best of intentions, imaging the streamlined, lovely, useful space you will soon have. And then you tackle the first pile of stuff, spend an hour agonizing over whether or not to get rid of anything, decide to keep it all, and quit in disgust. Don't let this be you. Watch these videos first.

If you're planning to declutter... why not start with something easy? Professional organizer Fay Wolf suggests taking ten minutes to clean out these three bulky items that easy to get rid of. This way, you'll start your project on a "yes-I-can-do-this" decluttering high.

In order to be able to finally free yourself from all the stuff you've been holding onto (but don't really need), it's important to explore why it is you might be hanging onto those particular items. Here, Fay looks at two big reasons people hold onto things... and gives you permission to let go.

Things with sentimental value can be the hardest to let go of. Here, Fay offers some suggestions for ways to keep the memories... and let go of the stuff.

And finally... what are you gonna do with all that stuff you're getting rid of? Don't just throw them away! Amelia Meena has plenty of suggestions for ways to give things away. And it'll be that much easier to clean out when you know that your old things will have a new life with someone else.

Thanks for watching, and happy organizing!
