The Guggenheim Offers The White House A Gold Toilet
When the White House requested to borrow a Vincent van Gogh painting from the Guggenheim, the New York museum had a crappy counteroffer: a used gold toilet. In a September email published by the Washington Post, the White House’s Office of the Curator requested to borrow the post-Impressionist work, entitled Landscape with Snow, for the official residence (which, the Post notes, is a common practice).

This Choreographer Turned Charles & Ray Eames Into A Dance
The lack of movies and plays about Charles and Ray Eames is one of the great pop culture mysteries of our time. Not only did the couple leave an indelible mark on the design landscape, their merging of business and marriage greatly challenged the gender norms of the day. Bay Area choreographer, Kristin Damerow, has used the Eames’ story as inspiration for a new contemporary dance piece, Eames.

Mario Batali’s Cinnamon Rolls and the Power of Rage Baking
It was less than a week after Eater published its report on Mario Batali and his sexual misconduct that the chef wrote an “apology letter” to his fans and readers that ended with, none other than, a recipe for cinnamon rolls. Most of the reactions to this recipe addendum pointed to the obvious: that Batali and whoever was in charge of his newsletter didn’t take these allegations seriously enough.

One Woman in California Successfully Returned a Dead Christmas Tree to Costco

Real People Put Real Food on their Dainty Plates
Last week Anthropologie was called out on Twitter for its overly twee styling of their dinnerware. The styling includes many examples of food placed near or around dishes instead of, you know, on the actual plate where it belongs. There are mugs filled with marshmallows instead of drinks and, my personal favorite, teeny-tiny pancakes on a plate with the wimpiest bite cut out of them. The styling certainly is not a true representative of what women actually eat on these pretty dishes.
