Light Up Your Casual Home Office with Offbeat Lighting Choices

I recently picked up a table lamp from IKEA to brighten up a corner in my bedroom that doesn't get much natural light, both to decorate the area and also add some illumination. It makes for an occasional impromptu casual work space where I can turn on the light and get some work done relaxing on a beanbag. Here are a few similar workspace lighting options that do not necessarily look the part of a typical task lamp...

Shown above: Level Table: The Level Table is not just a table but also a lamp and an iPhone charger all in one. The design lets you charge your iPhone and hides the cord inside the stand. We also like the bubble-like shape of the glass over the lamp.

IKEA Clear Lamp: The IKEA clear lamp comes in a couple of different size options. It's an affordable yet still stylish choice because of its simple design and modern clear body. The Jonsbo Barby version comes with a dimmer so you can control the brightness of the lamp.

Lamp "Mess" Designer Vasiliy Butenko created this design based on a "messy" form. The result is a pretty, plant-like shape that looks like a miniature tree. The lamp is made of sheet aluminum, making it lightweight and portable.

Beehive Lamp: If you're looking for a light to hang off the ceiling, the Beehive lamp is one of our favorite designs. It is made of painted aluminum with either brass or chrome plated rings which give the lamp a very elegant look.

Candelier: A lamp we've had our eyes on for a few years is Jellio's candelier, which is made out of 5,000 hand-string acrylic gummy bears. There's no way such a cheerful light won't brighten up any home office.
